TO THE SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI SERVICE DOG TRAINING CENTER
Saint Francis
of Assisi Service Dog Foundation purchased the property formerly
known as Lakeland Stables in Roanoke County in 2002. Saint Francis
offices are located at the Center and currently Saint Francis is
raising funds to build state of the art kennels to house service

A
Roanoke, Virginia – based 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation,
Saint Francis of Assisi Service Dog Foundation was established for
the purposes of:
-
raising, training and placing service dogs
-
encouraging people with physical and/or emotional disabilities
to become more independent and self-sufficient through their partnership
with service dogs
-
promoting the use and acceptance of service dogs through puclic
and professional education.
Founded in 1996,
Saint Francis of Assisi Service Dog Foundation once operated out
of donated space – churches, private homes, any location where
space could be “borrowed” for the training of future
service dogs. Grants and donations from private citizens, corporations,
institutions and other foundations allowed Saint Francis to purchase
property offering plenty of growing room to accommodate present
and future needs.
Just off of
Interstate 81 near Roanoke, Virginia, the Training Center is conveniently
located for out-of-town guests. Once fully developed, the Training
Center will permit Saint Francis of Assisi Service Dog Foundation
to place at least twenty-five dogs per year. This means that at
any given time, there will be one hundred dogs at some stage of
training in the program!
